Address: Kopernika 15/17 , 87-100 Toruń
A complex of 2 late-Gothic tenement houses from the end of the 15th century, rebuilt in the 19th century and reconstructed in 1960-1963. Formerly they belonged to the Krakow merchant Mikołaj Kopernik (senior). It is probably here that his son, the famous astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus, was born. Tenement houses represent the type of warehouse houses popular in the 15th century. Currently, both houses have a branch of the District Museum in Toruń. In tenement house No. 17, you can see the exhibition "Nicolaus Copernicus - life and work". It presents home and family environment, years of study and Copernicus' activity. In the attic of the tenement house models of astronomical instruments were placed, which were used by Mikołaj Kopernik: astrolabe, triquetrum and quadrant.
