Address: ul. Łazienna 16 , 87-100 Toruń
Bourgeois palace in the Old Town of Toruń from the 16th century, erected by the mayor of Toruń, Henryk Hitfeld. At the beginning of the 16th century, it came into possession of the Esken family - wealthy Toruń patricians dealing in grain trade - then it became the seat of this family for about 200 years! Around 1590, Franciszek II Esken transformed the gothic tenement house into a Renaissance residence with a magnificent stone portal. From 1844, it became the property of the trading company L. Damman and Kordes, which it used as a granary. In the 1980s, conservation works were carried out and the tenement house was adapted for museum purposes. Since 1990, it houses the Museum of Archeology and History, which is a branch of the Regional Museum in Toruń. It presents three permanent exhibitions: "Discovering the past" or archeological exhibition, "Militaria from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the 20th century" and "Toruń 1793-1920. A city of the borderland".
