Address: ul. Lwowska 1 , 87-100 Toruń
The museum was founded on November 14, 1973. It is located in the Institute of Biology and Environmental Protection of the Nicolaus Copernicus University and is the only natural museum in Toruń. All exhibits that can be admired here are mostly gifts from kind people, scientific expeditions, private collections and schools. The museum consists of three exhibition rooms. In the central exhibition hall entitled "Collections" you can see, among others a wonderful collection of Pomeranian butterflies prof. J. Prüffer. Next to the display case are exotic insects, surprising with their variety of forms and colors, as well as their considerable size. Next is the large Algerian collection of Dr. W. Kokociński - mainly invertebrates: scorpions and other arachnids, insects characteristic of desert areas, as well as dry-loving vegetation from the Sahara and the Szotów Highlands and from the Atlas Mountains. You can see the mating dance of the scorpion pair and look into their hideout. "Collections" are also materials from scientific expeditions to Antarctica and Spitsbergen, showing the flora and fauna characteristic of the local climate. Interesting are also exhibitions of birds (including 48 species of protected birds), because you can see here white-tailed eagle, golden eagle, bustard and other increasingly rare birds. The most popular is the African animal hunting collection. They are wonderfully dissected heads. The next room is dedicated to the history of the Earth. You can see here, among others rocks and minerals, as well as fossils of plants and animals from several hundred million ago. years. In the third small room entitled "Zoology" there are exhibits of animals from the simplest forms of tissues, i.e. sponges, cavities to amphibians and reptiles. It is open from Monday to Friday (except on public holidays) from 9.00 to 14.00. The admission ticket costs PLN 4. gross
